Khan Of Mars – So That Happened

Yesterday Evil Hat Productions’ Dinocalypse Kickstarter to fund a series of Golden Age pulp novels hit $30K.  In fact, it’s already gone over $30K.  It’s the second highest highest funded fiction project on Kickstarter.

Psychic Dinosaurs!

That means my novel KHAN OF MARS, wherein the intrepid Professor Khan, hyper-intelligent ape and professor at Oxford, finds himself on Mars fighting to save the Red Planet from dastardly deeds most foul, is a go.

This whole thing has gotten wonderfully, amazingly, frighteningly out of hand.  We’re up to seven novels by Chuck Wendig, C.E. Murphy, Brian Clevinger, Harry Connolly and I that everyone who contributes at the $10.00 level will receive.

Seven novels from five fantastic writers for $10.00.  That’s about $1.40 a book.

Now they’ll be available to people beyond the Kickstarter, but I think it’s safe to say that they’re going to be slightly pricier than a buck forty.  So if you get in now you’re guaranteed to get 7 complete pulp adventure novels for a ridiculously low price.

And if that wasn’t enough, DON’T READ THIS BOOK, an anthology of 13 stories that takes place in the dreamless world of the Mad City of the game Don’t Rest Your Head, not only has a cover, but I got to see the rough the other night.

Click the cover below to see the table of contents.  I dare ya.

That is one goddamn impressive lineup of authors there.  Edited by Chuck Wendig this antho includes some incredible writers; Monica Valentinelli, Will Hindmarch, Greg Stolze, Robin D. Laws, Mur Lafferty, Harry Connolly, Richard Dansky, C.E. Murphy, Josh Roby, Matt Forbeck, Laura Anne Gilman and, of course, me.

Let me tell ya, these stories are fucking gems.  It’s always a little intimidating to find yourself in a group of such talented writers and this is more intimidating than most.

Don’t know when this puppy’s gonna be out, but holy shit, when it hits you’re going to want to grab a copy.

  • The puppy will depend on how fast I can turn around author feedback (due in next week) and the print run, while also juggling the end of Dinocalypse, but I think it’s safe to say Don’t Read This Book will be out within the next 45-ish days.

Dino’s only looking to be the second-most-funded fiction KSer! The first is something ridinkulous like $64k.

  • Corrected! Though if you can break $30K in another 10 days I will be goddamn impressed. And yet, not surprised.

    And woooo! 45-ish days!

  • Congrats. I jumped in because I like how you staggered this one- and the story concepts sound fantastic. You gave readers great incentive to pre-order unwritten books, and I think that is part of why it’s such a great success.
    Great job, all.
