The Ridiculously Late Post About Who Won Those Cards

A while ago I held a contest for a set of Loteria inspired character cards from Eric Carter's world with art done by Galen Dara by sending me... something. A cosplay interpretation of the characters, art from a scene from one of the books, that sort of thing.

It ended more than a week ago, and I'm now getting this up, which is a shame because y'all should have been able to see the awesome long before today.

The winners of the contest get a set of these on Tarot sized cards.

It was tough picking the best. Got enough entries that I couldn't decide on just three. So, in no particular order, the winners!

What makes Sharpie magic work? Well, as @slczouk reminds us, Sharpies.

Showing that she has both read the books AND has a keen eye for decoration, @whatsizemedium did a throw pillow for Tabitha's couch.

A SONG! @HeyLuckyAnnie gives Eric a song. Do YOU have a song? Yeah, I didn't fucking think so.

Here we have a picture of Eric in his... more unfortunate circumstance by @van_haase.

@van_hasse also did this amazing drawing of Eric back in November.

And now I want a Dead Things manga.

And finally, an interpretation of Eric's friend, Alex, in his former role as a purveyor of bottled magic via Kerry Kugelman. I don't know about you, but this one just kinda terrifies me.

Thank you all for playing. Your cards will be sent out posthaste, which I believe is a type of gluey pastry, or something.

And for those who didn't win, I will be doing more of these and get these onto some sort of webstore... at some point. When I can think straight.

BOOK LAUNCH! SIGNINGS! WIN BOOKS, ART, MY EVERLASTING* GRATITUDE

*not actually everlasting. Maybe a week. Two tops.

The third Eric Carter book, HUNGRY GHOSTS, comes out Tuesday, February 7th. You should get a copy. Or one from Amazon, B&N, Kobo, iTunes, Google Books, or any number of indie bookstores out there.

Or you can wait to see me and get a copy.

  • Saturday, February 11th at 2pm, I'll be at Mysterious Galaxy signing copies of, well, whatever you want me to sign. As long as it's not a check or a contract for my immortal soul. I don't have any money and I don't have a soul.
  • Sunday March 5th at 8pm, I'll be reading / co-hosting Noir At The Bar L.A. at The Mandrake bar on La Cienega.
  • Saturday, March 11th, I'll be at Dark Delicacies signing books with Richard Kadrey, whose latest book, THE WRONG DEAD GUY, comes out 2/21.

Or you could WIN a copy.

There are three book giveaway contests going on right now, PLUS a giveaway of artwork by the amazing artist Galen Dara.

TOR.COM is giving away copies of all three Eric Carter books. DEAD THINGS, BROKEN SOULS, and HUNGRY GHOSTS. All you gotta do to enter is leave a comment.

Over at Amber Unmasked you can also win all three Eric Carter books. Little more complicated this time. Check it out. And while you're there you can listen to my nasally voice on the Vodka O'Clock Podcast talking about Santa Muerte and the fact that I have no idea what the hell I'm doing.

JoJo The Bookaholic's giving away a copy of DEAD THINGS.

WE HAVE BOOK SWAG! The contest to get a set of five Loteria-style cards of Galen Dara's amazing artwork is going on until February 15th. Seriously, check these out. So head on over to the contest page and try your luck.

The Eric Carter Fan Art Photo Cosplay Whatever Contest

UPDATE: I'm hearing from a lot of people that they're not expecting to get their paperback copies of HUNGRY GHOSTS from wherever they ordered them until around February 13th. Shipping them via tramp steamer and then overland by mule? I dunno.

I'm extending the contest to FEBRUARY 15th to give people some time to get their books so they can take a photo with it for the contest.

***

HUNGRY GHOSTS comes out in about three weeks, and to celebrate it I'm giving away some kick-ass art by the amazing World Fantasy Award winning, Hugo Award nominated artist GALEN DARA

Five Loteria style cards of Carter, Santa Muerte, the Bruja, Darius, and a beautiful reminder of Carter's poor life choices.

And I've got three signed sets of these babies printed on tarot sized cards with your name all over 'em.

THE CONTEST

You want 'em, you gotta earn 'em.

First, you must crawl to the top of Mount Hazzerak and defeat the Guardian of Yesterday's Tomorrows. Then, you will gather for me ten plagued rat hides from the sewers of the befouled city of Inthos in the Northern Marches. Then...

Wait, shit. No.

You gotta send me a picture.

Make some fan art; cosplay, photos, stick figure drawings, I don't care. Draw a scene from a book. Take a photo inspired by one. Show me your Santa Muerte altar. Cosplay a gender flipped character, whatever.

Or take a shot of yourself with a copy of DEAD THINGS, BROKEN SOULS, or if you get it in time, HUNGRY GHOSTS (or a shot of the cover on your Kindle, Kobo, Nook, etc.). But ya gotta surprise me with it. Make me laugh, back away slowly in horror, or more likely just call the police. MAKE IT EPIC.

*prepares for flood of disturbing yet oddly arousing images*

PROVE TO ME YOUR WORTHINESS.

Email me the pic at stephen.blackmoore@gmail.com by Friday, February 15th whereupon I WILL PIT THEM IN GODLESS BATTLE AGAINST EACH OTHER UNTIL ONLY THE FINAL THREE STAND COVERED IN THE BLOOD OF THEIR UNWORTHY OPPONENTS.

Or, you know, I'll just choose the ones I like the most, post them here and send you your cards.

Contest is open to wherever because, let's face it, 5 tarot size cards ship cheap.

And if you don't win a set, but you really want them, FRET NOT! For I shall be putting the cards up on a webstore some time in the not too distant future as well as the images on something or other I haven't decided what yet.

SO GET CRACKIN'!

FanArt! Book Sale! Galleys of HUNGRY GHOSTS!

Figured it's time I got this news section sorted. So I've got a few updates for y'all.

HOLY SHIT FANART

Twitter user @Van_Hasse did this. It is fucking awesome. I'm just gonna stare at it for a while.

DEAD THINGS SALE

In anticipation of the release of HUNGRY GHOSTS, the first Eric Carter book, DEAD THINGS is $1.99 in ebook form.
Amazon   Kobo   iTunes   Google
Not sure how much longer the sale's going to last, so if you haven't read DEAD THINGS and wanted to, here's a cheap way to do it.

HUNGRY GHOSTS ON NETGALLEY

If you've got a NetGalley account you might be able to get a copy of HUNGRY GHOSTS for review via NG.
Go here and request it. I don't have any control over who gets picked and who doesn't, but from what I understand if you're a reviewer, you've got a pretty good chance.
